KUCHING: More than 700 councillors will be sworn in today at Pullman Hotel here at 3pm.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will be present to witness the swearing-in ceremony.
According to Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, all councillors from 24 local councils throughout Sarawak will be present.
“The 24 councils include two city councils namely Miri City Council and Kuching City South Council, three municipal councils for Padawan, Samarahan and Sibu,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He also revealed that there would be 318 new faces, and 447 who would be reappointed. For Sibu Municipal Council, there would be 15 new faces, and 16 reappointments.
The rest will be the districts council, he added. “There will be a mixture of reappointed and new councilors.”
When asked who the new faces were, Penguang said he could not reveal this at present time.
Last Friday, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said there are 765 councillors in the list, with 318 new faces.
On July 11, the Sarawak Cabinet approved the list, which did have a representative from Parti Sarawak Bersatu.
