JAKARTA: At least 842,227 vehicles are expected to exit the metropolitan areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi, collectively known as Jabotabek, from Friday to next Tuesday for the Aidiladha festivities, according to highway operator PT Jasa Marga.
Jasa Marga anticipates a significant surge in traffic departing from the Jabotabek area, estimating a 25.53 per cent increase compared to regular traffic, totalling 670,913 vehicles.
The traffic influx is expected to originate from the Cikupa Toll Gate, leading towards Merak in Banten and facilitating travel to Sumatra Island, and from the Ciawi Toll Gate, directing traffic towards Puncak in Bogor, West Java, spokesperson Faiza Riani said in a statement Friday.
The Cikampek Toll Gate connects to West Java, Central Java, and East Java, while the Kalihurip Toll Gate links to Bandung, West Java, she added.
“Of the vehicles exiting Jabotabek, nearly half or 48.63 per cent, are projected to head towards West Java, Central Java, and East Java, while 28.47 per cent are expected to travel in the direction of Merak, leading to Sumatra Island, and 22.91 per cent towards Puncak in Bogor,” she said.
She said the peak of outgoing traffic may occur on Saturday, with an estimated 195,966 vehicles, marking a substantial increase of 32.94 per cent compared to typical traffic volumes.
In preparation for this surge, Jasa Marga assures its readiness to support traffic management efforts under police guidance, including implementing contraflow measures, deploying personnel, and installing support signage. – BERNAMA
