Over RM100mil spent to help folk during pandemic since 2020

THE Sarawak government, through the Social Welfare Department (JKMS), had spent RM107.1mil since 2020 to assist Sarawakians during the pandemic.

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the assistance provided by the state government included the distribution of food, daily necessities such as disposable diapers, and milk for children and the elderly.

“This assistance was given to those under the Movement Control Order (MCO), Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) and Home Surveillance Order.

“This assistance was also extended to those at quarantine centres, Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) as well as frontline personnel,” she said during her ministerial winding-up speech on today.

Fatimah also commended all state government agencies and departments for their efforts in delivering the assistance to the people.

“This challenging task can only be implemented with the help and strong cooperation of frontline agencies such as the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

“Not forgetting, the cooperation from community leaders, volunteers and other quarters who lent a hand to help people in need during the lockdown period.

“The ministry would like to thank all those involved.”
