SARATOK: More than RM2.5 million has been allocated by the Sarawak government to fund the electricity connection in two new settlements in the Kalaka constituency.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said it is among the projects under the Additional or Late Applicant Fund (ALAF) for Rural Electrification Projects (BELB) that had been completed.
“The residents of Lot Bunian and Kampung Pagan can breathe a sigh of relief. This Aidilfitri will certainly be celebrated more joyfully.
“Thanks to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government for allocating a substantial fund (RM2.5 million) to ensure the people enjoy 24-hour electricity supply,” he said after the symbolic launching of the ALAF project at the residents’ homes in Lot Bunian.
He explained that the cost for electricity connection in these two settlements ranges from RM13,600 to RM24,000 per house.
“It is indeed relatively high but due to the concern of the GPS government, it was still implemented.
“For the electricity connection in Lot Bunian, the total expenditure is about RM545,000.
“While for Kampung Pagan, it exceeds RM1.97 million, meaning for both settlements it’s over RM2.5 million,” he said.
Furthermore, he stressed that the provision of this basic infrastructure was due to the patience of the residents who had been waiting for so long.
“As a representative of the people, I hope similar projects (ALAF) in other villages or longhouses can also be expedited.
“Our target is to ensure that all residences are supplied with 24-hour electricity,” he added.
Mohamad was optimistic that the government led by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg would continue to ensure that development could be enjoyed by the people as a whole.
