KUCHING: Since 2006, conferences have contributed over RM504 million into Sarawak’s economy.
For that, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, and Sports Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah extended his congratulations and gratitude to the industry players who have contributed to it.
“I am confident that Business Events will continue to flourish with such commitment from various key movers and shakers.
“I stand before you today to assure you that the Sarawak government will be giving its full cooperation and support,” he said.
700 Business Events brought in equals to almost 254k delegates
Karim, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, said this during the launching ceremony of the ‘We Are The Global Tribes; Redefined Business Forum’ at Hilton Hotel here yesterday.
“Aside from economic indicators, the beauty of Business Events lies in the fact that they have tremendous spillover effects to other industries.
“Today, Business Event is more crucial than ever as most economies are being transformed into knowledge intensive economies.
“I am excited at the prospect of our state exploring possibilities and engaging with the world through partnerships and knowledge exchange.
“We have opened our doors to the world and we have proven our efficiency and capabilities as the host of prestigious Business Events.
“It would be interesting to observe the development within the next decade; I believe many more milestones will be achieved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) chairman Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah said that since 2006, the state has brought in almost 700 Business Events, which equals to almost 254,000 delegates and 847,000 delegate days.
“Beyond the immediate RM504 million revenue, there is a greater impact derived from Business Events over the long term especially for medicine, technology, science, and other advanced industries.
“Business Events produce meaningful business relationships and international collaboration across a myriad of sectors,” said Dr Muhammad Leo.
