KUCHING: The highly anticipated highlight of the 21st Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 closing ceremony will be the announcement of the overall champion.
Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee said that besides this announcement, the awards for the best male and female para athletes are also eagerly awaited by sports fans across the nation.
“The most important moment of the event will be the presentation of the overall champion title, alongside the awards for the best male and female para athletes of this year’s Games,” he said.
He said this after attending the full rehearsal for the closing ceremony of the 21st Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 at Stadium Perpaduan on Thursday night.
Regarding the rehearsal, Hii noted that it went smoothly, though a few areas still require some attention.
The closing ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, is expected to draw 3,000 spectators, including contingents from all states and distinguished guests.
“We are inviting members of the public through non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Resident Offices as well as community leaders and village chiefs.
“Around 1,200 people will be invited, taking into account the space limitations,” he added.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live on official platforms such as TV Sarawak (TVS), Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
Meanwhile, Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh will be officiating at the closing ceremony.
The evening will feature poetry recitations, dances, musical performances, a fireworks display, and a special performance by children from Sedidik in the Kuching area.
