SIBU: Brooke Drive Neighbourhood Committee under the Ministry of National Unity in collaboration with National Population And Family Development (NPFDB) under the Ministry of Women, Family And Community Development (KPWKM) successfully carried out a Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme.
The programme held recently in front of Nur Sejahtera Clinc in Jalan Chew Sik Hiong here received overwhelming response.
According to Brooke Drive Neighbourhood Committee chairperson Melinda Wong Kwong Hung, this was its first health programme done this year.
The programme, she said, was caried out in line with Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in January.
She pointed out that the main objective was to create awareness among women regarding cervical cancer.
She stated that the types of screening done were free Papsmear, High Risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA with minimal cost of RM20, as there was subsidy from the government and blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure at only RM10.
“Prevention is better than cure. Papsmear and HPV DNA cervical screening is a valuable early detection tool that can identity cancer at an early stage when treatment is easier, much more effective and less expensive.
“It is hope that this programme will help to foster a healthy community and a progressive nation. It is also a good platform to nurture good will, harmony and unity among people of multi-races,” added Wong.
