SIBU: More than 1,600 people from 205 longhouses in the Dudong constituency attended a Pre-Gawai gathering organised by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) together with Yayasan Nayun at a hotel here on Friday night.
Dudong assemblyman cum PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing extended his gratitude to all for their overwhelming response to the gathering.
“I understand that it has been two years since we have had difficulties celebrating such events, not only Gawai but also Chinese New Year and Eid,” he said.
In this context he advised everyone to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) during Gawai that will be celebrated soon.
“I hope all the communities take care of themselves during this upcoming Gawai celebration. Take care of your health and follow the SOP because we only live once,” he said.
A lot of activities were held during the gathering such as 70 lucky draws, singing and dance performances together with a fashion show.
Apart from that, academic incentives were also presented to 17 families by Yayasan Nayun for their academic achievement.
Tiong also allocated RM30,000 for Yayasan Nayun for their contribution to helping the younger generations to further their education.
“I hope that the allocation given to this Foundation can help more young generations in the future so that we can make sure they can continue their studies to university,” he said.
