KUCHING: Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FSKPM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) yesterday organised its third Jom Berambeh and Taufan programme.
Hosted at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru in Batu Kawa here, the programme which was based on a service-oriented learning, received overwhelming response from the village folk.
Eighty-two final year students of FSKPM, who are taking their Management Performance course, took part in the programme.
Unimas’ corporate communications said the programme, among others, was aimed at enhancing rapport between the participating students and the local community through joint activities as well as to boost the students’ self-confidence.
Through the joint activities, the students would also indirectly get first-hand experience living in a village as well as learning to create a win-win situation between the university and village communities.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated at the launch of the programme which was attended by Dean of FSKPM Dr Surena Sabil and other senior officials of Unimas. In his brief speech, Dr Sim commended Unimas for organising the programme and called for more of such programme to be organised in the future.
