DALAT: For the first time, the Oya District Open Gasing competition organised by the Kelab Gasing Kampung Boom will be held from September 15 to 16 at the Kampung Boom Gasing Court here.
In this regard, Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has allocated RM4,000, specifically for this competition which will be held in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
According to Fatimah, the gasing (spinning top) or called kikei by the local community could serve as a catalyst to gather the youth as well as to foster closer relationships not only among Kampung Boom villagers but the surrounding villages as well.
“Through such activities, it can also increase the income of the surrounding community.
“Hopefully, this programme will be continued and be an icon for our constituency,” she said in her speech at the opening ceremony last Sunday.
Malaysia Day will be celebrated in Padang Merdeka, Kuching.
In another development, she pointed out that effort to establish a madrasah in the Oya area would be pursued.
“It is our desire to see Oya to have its own madrasah (a college for Islamic instruction).
“Although we are going to do it on a small scale first, what is important is the spirit of one who seeks knowledge.
“We will seek the approval from the state Education Department first because in order to set up the madrasah, it will need the approval from the federal government through the Ministry of Education while the land will not be a problem as it will be requested from the state government,” she explained.
At the same time, Fatimah who is also Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister hoped that the leaders and community in her constituency could increase their activities either physical, religious or others, so that the free time of the villagers could be filled with healthy activities.
