PETALING JAYA: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has earned a third-place ranking in the Municipal Council category of the Local Authorities Star Rating Awards 2024, placing it among Malaysia’s top three municipal councils.
This recognition, awarded to MPP out of 156 local councils across the nation, underscores its outstanding governance standards, and MPP is notably the highest-ranked council in Sarawak.
The accolade was presented to MPP Chairman Tan Kai by Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, during an award ceremony at the Local Authorities Convention held at Dewan Sivik, Petaling Jaya City Council.
The convention, which celebrated excellence in local governance, was earlier officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The Local Authorities Star Rating System, a biennial assessment, evaluates local councils on four key components: Management, Core Services Provision, Customer Management, and Community Participation.
This year’s evaluation placed additional emphasis on integrity and good governance.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the solid support and cooperation from the Sarawak government, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, other government departments and agencies, MPP councillors, MPP staff, and the dedicated residents of Padawan,” said Tan.
“Rest assured, we at MPP will not rest on our laurels. We are committed to maintaining and enhancing our services for the rakyat. Together, we are working toward efficient service delivery and a sustainable Padawan municipality,” he said.
