KUCHING: A proposal to upgrade the Padawan sub-District into a full-pledged district is still under discussion.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Road and Aviation) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the matter is being handled by the State Secretary.
“There’s a task force formed which will look into the due diligence.
“Not only the sub-district but the whole of Kuching area will be reviewed.
“Therefore, we will leave it to the taskforce because they are the ones responsible,” he told a press conference after attending DUN Mambong GKCDA project briefing at a hotel here, today (Oct 16).
Without disclosing when it will materialise, he said the upgrading of sub-district offices involves administrative procedures.
“We have a committee to review and they will re-evaluate and do the delineation works,” he added.
Earlier, Penghulu Richard Daho, who represented the community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) from Mambong constituency, had requested for Padawan sub-district to be upgraded into a full district.
He said the matter had been forwarded to Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datuk Buckland Bangik.
Daho said there is a need for the upgrade as Padawan area is huge, with a population of 69,000 residents, 10 schools, 12 government agencies and 45 housing areas under its jurisdiction.
