KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council with the collaboration of Borneo Highland Resort has successfully organised Borneo Highland Resort Padawan Nature Challenge 2017 which was held at Boneo Highland Resort on 29th October 2017. The one day event attracted about 300 participants including from West Malaysia, Indonesia, Belgium and Poland.

This year the organising committee listed the event into four categories, namely: 1. 33km MPP Chairman Challenge (Road/Trail) 2. 12km Sport TOTO Challenge (Men/Women) Open. 3. 80km King of the Mountain for (Veteran/ Open Category) 4. 10km Batu Panggah Trekking. The 80km King of the Mountain has attracted Sea Game Gold medallist, Muhammad Fauzan bin Ahmad from Pulau Pinang, Nik Mohmamad Azwan bin Zulkifle from Kelantan and Muhd Nasrullah bin Imanizam from Kedah who represented PDRM G team. According to the Chairman of the organising Committee, Cr Bronnie Marshall Benedict Poris, the 80km King of the mountain was rated the toughest route for the cycling event in Malaysia. The guest of honour was the Deputy Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council, Cr. Dato’ Ahmad Bin Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

He represented the Minister of Local Government and Housing Sarawak, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian, in officiating at the closing ceremony and thereafter gave away the prizes to the winners. In his speech, Cr. Dato’ Ahmad has encouraged all the participants to come back and participate again in next year’s event. “For nature lovers, Borneo Highland is the most ideal place for you. I absolutely agree with the tag line of BHR “Go Back to Basic and Go Back to Nature”.

It means a lot to many of us here today. I strongly believe that because of the strong bond between you and nature, is the reason why you make a commitment to join this event. Anyway I hope to see more participants from overseas taking part in this race next year.

The main objectives of organising BHR Nature Challenge are:

1. To create awareness among the participants about the importance of keeping themselves  t and healthy all time.

2. To create awareness regarding the importance of preserving nature, especially the rainforest that is available within the jurisdiction of the Padawan Municipality.

3. To market Borneo Highland Resort as part of the green and conservation area that need to be maintained.

4. To market and showcase Padawan area as a potential hub for tourism among Nature lovers in this region.

5. To promote extreme sports among the young and older generation.

6. To promote tourism products that are available at Padawan Municipal Council and

7. To promote cultural activities for the tourists and the local communities. Other than that, of course, we want to share our appreciation to the local community that their area has never been neglected by the Padawan Municipal Council in term of physical and infrastructure development,” said Cr. Dato’ Ahmad.
