KUCHING: A painter was sentenced to jail and fined by the Magistrates’ Court here on Today (Aug 24) for drug-related offences.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced Tiagu Ramen Alien, 33, after he pleaded guilty to two charges read before him.

For the first charge, he was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act, for engaging in drug abuse activities.

He tested positive for drugs at the Kuching District Police’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division office, on Feb 17.

The accused would also be under police supervision for two years after serving his prison sentence.

For the second charge, he was fined RM3,600, in default three months’ imprisonment, under Section 12(2) of the aforementioned Act and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, for possessing 0.61g of methamphetamine.

The accused was found to be in possession of the drugs in a budget hotel in Batu Tiga on Feb 17.

The prosecution of the case was handled by ASP Rogayah Rosli while the accused was unrepresented.
