KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing Jemut claimed that the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is more confusing than it really is due to politicking by Pakatan Harapan (PH).
He said that certain PH members of parliament have been trying to make themselves heroes of Sarawak and Sabah by interpreting the MA63 using complicated legal jargons making the document difficult to understand.
Since Parliament proposed an amendment to the Federal Constitution with regards to the MA63, both sides of the political divide created a “war of words” on social and printed media.
Masing said it would be so much easier if Parliament just amended the 1976 amendment in the Federal Constitution which reduced the status of Sarawak and Sabah to two of the 13 states. That would restore the positions of the two states to “regions” as they were in 1963 and recorded in the MA63.
“In this way, they would become equal to Malaya with no hassle. All agreement as in the MA63 would remain intact and must be pursued by Putrajaya with no change!” he said.
