NEW DELHI: Pakistan and Afghanistan on Tuesday condemned Israeli aggression against Lebanon, saying the Zionist regime’s actions may lead to a regional conflagration.
Israel has killed more than 550 people, including 50 children and dozens of women, in its bombardment of various areas of Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, since Monday, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
“This act of aggression against the Republic of Lebanon is a grave violation of the UN Charter and international law. It is a dangerous escalation that has further endangered peace and security in an already volatile region,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“We call upon the international community to take urgent steps to hold Israel to account for its alarming adventurism in the region and its acts of aggression and genocide,” it said.
The Afghanistan government in a statement said the failure to respond to the Zionist regime in Gaza emboldened it to attack Lebanon.
It said the Zionist regime is threatening the security of the entire region and called on the international community to step in to protect civilians in Lebanon and Palestine.
At least 1,835 people have been injured in the Israeli attacks in Lebanon. — BERNAMA
