KUCHING: Eighth seed Pakistan continued their strong momentum by pulling off another 2-1 upset victory against fourth seed Hong Kong in the semi-final of ITF World Tennis Junior Team Competition U14 (Boys) Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying held at Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Centre on Friday.
The Pakistanis lived up to their words from a day ago by taking down another nation that is ranked higher than them and will march into the final of the tournament.
Abubakar Talha continued to be the pivotal player for Pakistan as he again won the first match for his nation by easing through Selwyn Wong Tsz Yuen by 6-3, 6-2.
Tam Sin Hang later pulled one back for Hong Kong in the second singles’ match by destroying Hamza Roman by 6-1, 6-1.
In the all important doubles’ match to decide the winner, Roman managed to make it up for the singles’ loss by teaming up with Talha to beat Choi Fu Wang and Tam by 7-6(5), 6-4 after 96 minutes of hard fought battle.
Despite the loss, Hong Kong will still move on into the grand finals which will take place in August in Czechia as four tickets will be given for the boys’ category for Asia/Oceania.
