SHAH ALAM: The Ministry of Primary Industries has urged companies producing palm-based products to display the “Love My Palm Oil” or “Sayangi Sawitku” logo on their respective products in support of the Sayangi Sawitku Campaign.

Its minister Teresa Kok Suh Sim said the move was aimed at promoting the use of palm oil in producing various food products and daily necessities.

“We want the companies producing palm-based products to display the Love My Palm Oil logo (on every product) because there are people who don’t know that its usage is broad and versatile, from production of various food products such as cooking oil, chocolate and ice cream, or personal care products like soap and lipstick to fuel for vehicles.

“To-date, FGV Holdings Bhd has taken the initiative to promote the campaign by displaying the Sayangi Sawitku logo through its product brand, that is, Saji, besides on their vehicles that carry the company’s cooking oil,’’ she told reporters after launching Sayangi Sawitku Campaign by FGV Holdings here, yesterday.

Also present were FGV group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan and Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd acting CEO Shammim Azad Kamruzaman.

The Love My Palm Oil campaign was launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in March this year, with the objective of educating the people on the advantages as well as the commodity’s contribution to the nation.

Kok said she hoped FGV and related industry players would go down to the field to become spokesperson representing the government to promote the advantages and benefits of palm oil to the people.

She said by doing so, the people would be more confident to continue to use products made of palm oil, thus increasing demand for local palm oil.

“This includes spurring public confidence so they will use biodiesel B10 (a mixture of 10 percent palm biodiesel and 90 percent petroleum diesel) as fuel for the transportation sector.

‘’The people don’t have to worry as to-date, we have not received any negative complaint on the effects of using this biodiesel,” she said.

Meanwhile, Shammim Azad said, in conjunction with the Ramadan fasting month, the organisation is launching its ‘Infak Ramadan Saji’ campaign whereby 50 sen from every purchase of 5kg cooking oil will be collected and donated to local charity organisations and Felda settlers.

He said through this campaign, the company aimed to collect funds totalling RM300,000 for distribution to the target groups. –Bernama
