KOTA SAMARAHAN: A late night fire broke out at a palm oil mill in Lubok Bunting yesterday (Sept 10).

The 11.15 pm blaze caused about 50 per cent damages to the thresher drum in the palm kernel processing area.

Fortunately, no injuries or structural damages were reported.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Kota Samarahan and Asajaya stations were promptly despatched to the scene, some 40km away.

The extinguishing deed was initially carried out by the factory to contain the fire before the team arrived.

When the team arrived, the firefighters immediately got down to work to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the mill.

The operation ended at 1.10 am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
