THE Pan Borneo Redline, part of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project, is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2025.
Deputy Premier and Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said that the federal government is looking into the rehabilitation of the existing dual carriageway, which was excluded from the Pan Borneo Highway upgrading project.
“The 136km upgrading project is also known as the Pan Borneo Redline.
“For this programme, funding of RM120 million has been approved for part of the Redline works, which is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2025,” Uggah said during his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Regarding the Pan Borneo Highway, Uggah mentioned that as of October 2024, all 25 sections have been opened to public use, except for a 2km stretch in the Sarikei section.
“And approximately 5km in the Lambir section, accounting for an overall progress of 99.62 per cent,” he said.
On the Trans Borneo Highway, Uggah said the Limbang, Lawas, and Miri sections are currently at the pre-contract stage.
“The Limbang and Lawas projects are targeted for tender in the first quarter of 2025, while the Miri section is planned for tender in the fourth quarter of 2025,” he said.
He said that the project consists of three sections: the Miri Section, spanning 4.95km from Kuala Baram to CIQ Sungai Tujuh; the Limbang Section, covering 54.6km from CIQ Tedungan to CIQ Pandaruan; and the Lawas Section, stretching 33.7km from Lawas town to CIQ Merapok.
Meanwhile, Uggah reported steady progress on the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project, with significant milestones achieved in both phases of development.
“SSLR Phase 1, spanning 76km from Simpang Gelugus to Long Luping, is 40.2 per cent complete as of October 2024. The RM1.02 billion project is on track for completion by the fourth quarter of 2026.
“SSLR Phase 2, covering approximately 322km at an estimated cost of RM7.15 billion, began site clearing and earthworks for Package 2 in August 2024.
“This section, extending from Long Seridan to Nanga Medamit, is slated for overall completion by the third quarter of 2029,” he said.
