KUCHING: Malaysian diver Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg has been appointed as a board member of the Student Volunteers Foundation (Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa, or YSS), a foundation that promotes volunteerism among students.
In a statement on her Facebook page, Pandelela expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to carry out her duties with compassion.
“I am honoured to be part of YSS, and I will take this responsibility with compassion,” she said.
Pandelela, who hails from Sarawak, is one of Malaysia’s most successful athletes.
She made history at the 2012 London Olympics by becoming the first Malaysian woman to win a medal in diving, earning a bronze in the 10 metre platform event.
She also won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 10 metre synchronised platform with Cheong Jun Hoong.
Aside from her sporting achievements, Pandelela is also known for her philanthropic work.
She has been involved in various charitable initiatives, including raising funds for flood victims in Sarawak and promoting environmental conservation.
With her appointment to the YSS board, Pandelela will be able to further contribute to the development of volunteerism among Malaysian students.
