Pandelela wins first-ever diving World Cup gold

KUCHING: Malaysia’s diving queen Pandelela Rinong clinched the country’s first-ever gold medal in the FINA Diving World Cup 2021.

The 28-year-old Sarawakian, a two-time Olympic medallist showed true grit to beat her rival Japan’s Matsuri Arai with a 355.70 total to win the women’s 10m platform individual event at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre today.

Arai finished with 342.00 for the silver while Canada’s Caeli McKay settled for bronze with a 338.55 total.

Pandelela also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled to be held from July 23 to Aug 8.
