KUCHING: The “one family, one graduate” goal has been successfully achieved in the Pantai Damai constituency, says assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication highlighted that some families in the area have gone beyond this aspiration, producing multiple graduates.
“In our community, we have not only achieved the ‘one family, one graduate’ vision, but we now see families with two, three, or even all of their children graduating from higher learning institutions.”
Dr Abdul Rahman said this when officiating the Higher Learning Institution (IPT) Student Incentive Presentation Ceremony for the Pantai Damai constituency at the Wisma Sabati Auditorium here, Thursday (Nov 21).
During the ceremony, he presented incentives to 257 students from the constituency as a gesture of encouragement and recognition for their pursuit of higher education.
He stressed that having at least one graduate in a family creates a ripple effect, inspiring younger siblings to follow suit.
“Our aim of encouraging one child from each family to graduate is to set an example for their siblings.
“When an older sibling graduates, it inspires and influences the younger ones. This creates a chain of success within the family.
“Now, we see that not just one, but sometimes all children in a family manage to graduate from higher learning institutions.”
He also encouraged students to make the most of their educational opportunities and aim for meaningful careers that could transform their families’ lives.
“Set your intention to acquire knowledge diligently so you can graduate, support your parents, and become an inspiration to your younger siblings.
“Securing a good job will also help lift the family out of the cycle of poverty.”
