KUCHING: Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis recently visited a papaya plantation owned by Lau Pung Chee located in Entulang Pra, Sri Aman.

Lau, who has spent many years as a local fruit grower, briefed Harden on papaya cultivation and its commercial potential in the state, saying that he viewed the fruit market as an agricultural field that can yield lucrative earnings.

“With a plantation area of approximately 12 hectares planted with three-foot papaya breeds, I started cultivating papaya a year ago and have harvested the fruits numerous times to be sold to markets,” he said.

When asked about his future plans, he hopes to produce more types of crops, particularly lemon, as he recognises the great demand for it in the market.

In addition, Lau also stated his hope for government aid through the Department of Agriculture to upgrade farm roads to make transportation easier.
