KUCHING: Sarawak’s boccia athletes are intensifying their training in preparation for the upcoming Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI Sarawak, which will begin on September 22.
These athletes are having their training at the Seng Goon Indoor Basketball Court in Kuching, from morning until 4 pm, focusing on sharpening their skills.
In an interview with the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), one of the athletes competing in the BC3 category, Sheirviana Matthew, shared her goal for the upcoming competition.
“I hope to win the gold medal in this Para SUKMA,” said the Sibu-born athlete.
Meanwhile, Angeline Melissa Lawas, who hails from Kuching and competes in the women’s BC1 category, also shared her thoughts on her preparations during central training.
“I hope to give my best for Sarawak. This is my first time competing, and I am determined to perform well,” she said after her training session.
Echoing the same sentiment, Willien Cliff Honseng, another athlete in the men’s BC1 category, felt that his preparation is progressing well, and he is ready to compete.
“I hope to do my best for my state, to uplift the Sarawak boccia team, and make my family proud,” he said.
For the record, one of Sarawak’s boccia athletes, Abdul Razam, who competes in the men’s BC4 category, recently qualified for the event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
