KUCHING: The success of the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma XXI) Sarawak 2024 has provided Sarawak with a vital platform to gain experience and enhance its ability to host large-scale sporting events.

Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah noted that the event serves as an opportunity to learn, strategise and improve the standards of sports event management at higher levels.

“As preparation for the Road to Para Sukma 2026, I suggest:

a. Establishing a Sports Development Unit for People with Disabilities under my ministry.

b. Implementing aggressive, collaborative talent identification and development.

c. Organising professional development and sports science training update courses for coaches.

d. Continuing exposure programmes at national and international levels for para-athletes and coaches.

“I hope that this Para Sukma event will be a valuable experience and a benchmark for the development of para sports in Malaysia in general, to be held in a more vibrant and large-scale manner.”
