Parents of special children appeal for a safer classroom

LAWAS: Parents of pupils from the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pusat Lawas are appealing to the state government to move their children’s classroom to a safer location. They point out that the current classroom is isolated and not safe, and only accessible by a dilapidated bridge. Recently, according to them, a pupil fell into a drain and injured his head while using the bridge. They added the school management and the PPKI class supervisors have applied for a more appropriate class location to the State Education Department, but so far, there is no reply. The PPKI class is the only option available to parents in rural areas to enable their children to attend elementary school education with trained teachers. Al though there i s al so a Communi ty Rehabi l i tat ion Centre (PDK) in Lawas, however, parents are still not fully convinced that the centre can provide good education to their special children. The parents hope that Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg through the State Education Department, will help them.
