SERIAN: Parishioners packed St Theresa’s church here for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Holy Mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The large congregation included foreign workers from nearby plantations.

During the Mass, Rev Fr Leonard Yap blessed all the children present before bringing the ‘Baby Jesus’ and placing Him in a ‘manger’ built at the compound of the church building.

In conjunction with the Christmas celebration, the Parish Pastoral team led by John Sup (senior citizen) and Dismas Julai (youth) organised children’ parties.

The team also distributed Christmas gifts received from well-wishers to children at Kampung Sebangkui (December 17), Kampung Kakai (December 19) and Kampung Sg Kranji (December 21).

The St Vincent De Paul Society also distributed gifts received from the well-wishers to the needy.

Despite having different religious beliefs, the family of Anthony Joseph Lajo still celebrates a lively Christmas together at Kampung Tellian Daya Mukah.

Meanwhile, the Christmas Day Holy Mass on the morning of December 25 was celebrated by Rector Rev Fr Paul Herry.

Among the attendees were Muplop Pandi, 76 and his wife Janet Daris, 75. Pandi suffered a stroke in 2010 and was bedridden for several years but has recently recovered.

Since his recovery, he has always attended Holy Mass despite the difficulty he faced in climbing up the 24 steps of the church.
