LUNDU: Park wardens and rangers from 13 Totally Protected Areas (TPAs) took part in a ‘Forest Fighting at TPAs Training’ programme here.
According to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), the training was conducted by its Totally Protected Areas Management (TPAM) Division in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
The training was held from May 24 to 26 at Salcra’s Bajo Training Centre.
“The 32 participants were exposed to subject matters such as contributing factors in causing fire, firefighting equipment, operation command and firefighting techniques as well as strategies in combating fire threats.”
A firefighting simulation was conducted at Samunsan Wildlife Sanctuary to guide participants on the proper way of handling firefighting equipment such as portable pumps, floating pumps and hoses.
On another note, SFC said a team accompanied by folk from Nanga Talong and Lubok Pantu longhouses went to monitor camera traps deployed within community forests.
“Since January 2020, SFC had set up 39 camera traps within various community forests to capture and record baseline information on large and medium-sized mammals.
“This project is a continuation of large mammal surveys, which was previously held within the vicinity of Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary. This project kicked off in November 2016, as a collaborative project with the Smithsonian Institution, the USA.”
