KUCHING: Late last month, members of the public complained that they were issued summons for parking their vehicles along Lorong Liu Shan Bang 4B here despite the absence of any ‘yellow line’ and/or ‘no parking’ signs.
“This area had been a parking bay for the people here for many years. The council had re-tarred the said spot and omitted to repaint the box, which depicts a parking bay,” said Michael Kong Feng Nian, special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen in a press release yesterday.
“I had assisted some of the complainants to appeal against the traffic summons issued against them. At the same time, we highlighted the matter to the authorities and urged them to quickly repaint the parking lots and also the road direction arrows to avoid confusion.
“After close to a month, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has finally taken the steps to redraw the parking bay. I believe that there are many more out there who have fallen victim to these unreasonable traffic summons. With the parking bay now being confirmed by MPP, all such summons should be cancelled immediately,” he said.
