KUCHING: The Conference of Speakers of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies (DUN) from across Malaysia, held here last September, was hailed as a remarkable success.
Sarawak DUN Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, highlighted that the event not only featured valuable presentations and discussions about the roles of DUN and parliamentary speakers but also included an exciting itinerary that set it apart from previous conferences.
He noted that this unique approach made the Sarawak-hosted event a fresh and memorable experience for participants.
“I’ve attended several of these conferences in different states, and I can confidently say that the Conference of Parliamentary and State Assembly Speakers of Malaysia held in Sarawak this September was the most vibrant and impressive,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the Appreciation Ceremony for the Officials of the 2024 Conference of Speakers of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies (DUN) held at a local hotel, yesterday (Oct 25).
Also in attendance was the Dewan Negara President, Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.
Commenting on the conference agenda, Asfia mentioned some of the standout features this year, including a dinner cruise along the Sarawak River and a visit to the Borneo Cultural Museum.
In light of the event’s success, Asfia hinted that the Sarawak DUN might play a role in hosting larger international events in the future.
“This won’t be the last time Sarawak DUN will be called upon to take part. We may be involved in organising events at both the national and international levels.
“As such, we must be ready when the time comes, especially in terms of reception, protocol, and other preparations,” he added.
