SIBU: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), which aims to capture the state government, will be fielding candidates in all 82 seats in the next state election which is due in May, 2011.
Its president Voon Lee Shan said it would have to field candidates in all 82 seats so as to allow it to win the election.
“We have sufficient number of candidates for all the seats for us to win the election. As we want to capture the state government, we need the support of the people in the coming state election,” he said after chairing the party’s central committee meeting today.
By capturing the state government, he said PBK would then be able to make the necessary representations to the federal government through peaceful means and in accordance with the constitution.
Since helping to form Malaysia, he said Sarawak and Sabah did not enjoy equal status and equal partnership.
“By right, Sabah and Sarawak should have 2/3 of the 222 seats in the federal parliament instead of just 25 and 31 seats respectively. Both states have also been receiving just 5% of the oil revenue while the rest goes to the federal government,” he said.
“Once PH takes over the state government, there will be nothing to stop it from amending the state constitution and passing relevant state laws to allow people from Malaya to stand in elections here or do business and further control the state economy and development,” warned Voon.
“This could be seen by the passing of the Petroleum Development Act 1974, Territorial Sea Act 2012 and failure or reluctance of the federal government to grant or give back what are ours, as mentioned in the Federal Constitution,” he said.
PBK was approved as a political party by ROS on August 28, 2013. Yesterday’s meeting saw the election of several people to various posts.
They are Yu Chin Liik (life president), Voon Lee Shan (president), Peli Aron (deputy president), Awang Badele, Peter Asut and Datuk George Martin (vice presidents), Priscilla Lau (secretary-general), Annie Lau Siew Ching (assistant secretary), Jamie Tiew Yen Houng (treasurer general), Ralikrishnan Wong (assistant treasurer), Pelly Lee Oui Lea (organising secretary), Devora Chung Siew Yen (assistant organising secretary), Eddie Loh Chen Tz (publicity and information secretary), Arthur Wong Yuk Chu ( assistant publicity and information secretary).
