KUCHING: The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) is encouraging local youth to participate in activities held in mosques.
Its chief executive officer, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said LAKMNS is taking a holistic approach with many of its programmes conducted at mosques.
“This includes the Maal Hijrah programme, whereby this year, it will be held at Masjid Jamek from July 12-14.
“We have held three series of Maal Hijrah programmes, and this will be the next series, where we hope that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be our guest for this year’s Maal Hijrah,” he said.
He said this after paying a courtesy call to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana Negeri Sarawak on Monday (May 20).
Abang Abdul Wahap said the courtesy call was to provide an explanation and a brief on LAKMNS and its activities to Wan Junaidi.
“Most of the initiatives we are working on have Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi’s agreement.
“However, looking at the current situation, Tun expressed a desire to see all efforts directed towards instilling values, much like in kindergartens where we already have ‘hafazan’ and education.
“If possible, he emphasised that these values should be highlighted to the younger generation,” he said.
