KUCHING: Party hopping renders democracy pointless, says political observer Datuk Peter Minos.
He stressed that it was best and wise that a law was created to stop this.
“Such a law will bring about political stability and shape politics towards better days.
“Those politicians who support or accept party hoping do so for both dubious and devious reasons.
“Some do party hopping for financial reasons and political survival, which are all of no good to the voters,” said Minos yesterday.
The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman pointed out the outcome if MPs and state assembly members jumped parties excessively.
“It will definitely lead to political chaos. Elections and the people’s political choices would be useless and inconsequential.”
He recalled reading on what the British people said of any MP doing party hopping – unprincipled, devoid of party loyalty or any sense of loyalty to anything and not to be trusted or believed.
“I tend to agree. The British said that party hopping was bad for democracy and for political stability in a nation. I think so too.”
