SIBU: Women, especially those from the underprivileged group, are urged to go for a free medical checkup organised by Dudong Parti Sarawak Bersatu Women’s Wing.
The event will take place at 9am tomorrow (March 9) at Sing Kwong (Salim) Supermarket.
Chairperson of the Wing, Kapitan Connie Loh told at a press conference yesterday that they are organising it in conjunction with this year’s Women’s Day celebration.
The health screening covers high blood pressure, breast examination, Pap Smear test and mental health screening.
Medical officers from Sibu Hospital will conduct the screening.
“The purpose of the event is to highlight the importance of women’s health. We hope that it could particularly benefit women from low income families who are not able to afford to go for health checkups,” she added.
She also believed there are many women who are busy with their work including taking care of their children that they often forget about their health, or find it hard to arrange a time to go for health checkups.
“We hope this event would serve as a reminder for them on the importance of having regular health checkups. Women’s health is important and should not be neglected,” she said.
Women, she said need to be in good health, not only for themselves but also for their family so as to be able to provide and support them.
“The greatest gift a woman can give is a healthy life,” she said.
Loh said at 7am on that day, they would distribute gifts in the form of a pack of Milo drink, a can of soft drink and a pack of instant noodle to women at the wet market of Sibu Jaya.
“We will also ask them to go for the health screening at Sing Kwong Supermarket,” she said, adding that they had prepared 2,000 gift packs for both venues.
