KUCHING: Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) Sarawak has commended Sarawak government leaders in the formation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which was officially launched on Jan 19.
Its state commissioner Jofri Jaraiee said PAS Sarawak also fully supported their decision of quitting Barisan Nasional (BN) and not merging with Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
Given the uncertainty associated with today’s political scenario, he described the formation of GPS as a good and wise move.
GPS was formed by four former component parties of the state BN, namely, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). GPS was established on June 12, 2018.
Today’s political uncertainty requires new approaches and political platform such as GPS, Jofri said in a press statement issued to congratulate the state leaders on the launch of GPS.
“New approaches such as this is necessary to ensure that the interest of Sarawakians at all levels are continually safeguarded and pursued,” Jofri pointed out.
He said PAS Sarawak also wished to express gratitude to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) for its success in establishing and ensuring an excellent inter-racial ties and a state of harmony and peace among the state’s multi-racial and multi-religious people.
Jofri said political ideologies and principals aside, PAS Sarawak only wanted the best for the state and its people.
He said as far as possible PAS Sarawak would continue to contribute to efforts to develop Sarawak while at the same time be a responsible opposition in providing the “check and balance” to Sarawak government.
