SIBU: Traders at the “Pasar Tamu” and “Pasar Ria” in Sibu Jaya will become permanent traders once they get their licences from the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).
Deputy Chairman of SRDC, Councillor Robert Lau, who heads the Business and Licensing Standing Committee, said SRDC would legalise traders at the “Pasar Tamu” and “Pasar Ria” in Sibu Jaya soon by issuing them monthly permits.
“Right now, they are just daily traders paying RM2 each. Thus, we are, in a way, legalising them by giving them licences at RM60 a month or RM2 a day. We also providing them with new tables,” he told a press conference after the SRDC full council meeting here on Friday.
Lau added that the council was going to issue licences to traders at the “Pasar Ria” at RM60 each a month.
“Existing traders allocated a stall each previously will become permanent traders and we will provide them water and electricity on a sharing basis,” he said.
Lau revealed that the council had received many complaints on the use of five-foot ways and parking bays for commercial activities.
He said the council would start charging those occupying parking bays for business activities and stop trading on the five-foot ways.
“We will going to charge them RM50 a month per bay so they can use the parking bays on a permanent basis to avoid issues,” Lau said, adding such moves were important to ensure proper development of Sibu Jaya.
He advised traders to cooperate with the council.
SRDC Chairman, Sempurai Peturs Ngelai was among those present at the press conference.
