KUCHING: A male passenger succumbed to severe injuries at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after being extricated by firefighters from a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Teo Kui Sing, here yesterday (Sept 17).

The accident happened around 1am, involving a Perodua Axia carrying two locals, and a Proton S70 driven by a 35-year old woman, who is a Chinese national.

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the Proton travelling towards Jalan Stutong Baru from Jalan Lapangan Terbang, had skidded out of control and collided with the Axia travelling from Jalan Teo Kui Sing.

“As a result, the Axia passenger, a 40-year-old man, sustained severe injuries and he was rushed to SGH for immediate treatment.

“However, the victim was pronounced dead in the hospital’s emergency ward at 3.30 am,” he said.

It was reported that the 34-year-old Axia driver only sustained minor injuries while, the Proton driver escaped unharmed.

Mohd Farhan pointed out that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.

Anyone with information regarding the accident, is urged to contact traffic investigating officer Insp Charlie Aloysius at 014-8682068, the Kuching traffic police station at 082-259900 or the nearest police station.

In light of this, he advised road users to always be careful while driving or riding and adhere to traffic laws to prevent accidents.
