MUKAH: A local fisherman was rescued by a fellow angler after being stranded at sea due to his boat engine failure this morning (June 17).

A firefighter speaks to the elderly fisherman after he was rescued and taken to the jetty by another angler.

The 72-year-old was found in his boat around 10.30am, approximately two nautical miles off Kuala Mukah.

Initially, the victim was not able to return home from sea after his boat’s engine got damaged.

This caused him to be stranded about three nautical miles off Kuala Mukah with strong winds and also prompted him to contact authorities for rescue assistance.

Firefighters from Mukah station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.19am from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

However, they were informed that the victim had been rescued and taken back to the jetty by another angler who happened to be on his way back to Kuala Mukah.
