KUCHING: Nurfarrah ‘ain Mohammad Sukan, 23, has been involved in the world of hijab business since Form Six, which has been the main driver for her to continue in the profession.
Nurfarrah has been interested in entrepreneurship since 2006, as an undergraduate concentrating in Counselling at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
“At first, the Farlshijab hijab business was the result of my efforts with two other friends, with a capital of only RM200.
“We ran this business online using the Instagram platform for promotional purposes,” she pointed out.
She claimed that she continued the business privately after her two friends were able to acquire a boutique to continue the business.
“I don’t come from a rich family, so I have to find a smart approach to avoid bothering both of my parents with money.
“Because I am still studying at Unimas, I am grateful to have my savings and income to cover the tuition expenses” she added.
She stated that she felt more at ease using her income rather than relying solely on the income of both of her parents.
“Even though I’ve been selling hijabs for a long time, I don’t have a website or a storefront like everyone else.
“My customers in fact, order products through social media and the products are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week or 24/7.
“I normally sell hijabs based on the number I acquire, without focusing on festivals or anything else,” she explained.
When asked about the pricing of the hijab, she stated that it is significantly cheaper at RM25 and below.
“Customer response to the sale of hijabs is particularly promising, even though it is only held online.
“This could be because many clients prefer to complete purchases online because it is easier and faster.”
She also does a delivery service based on the distance between their different locations.
“Those who live outside Kuching will have their items mailed to them, while those who live nearby will enjoy the cash on delivery (COD)service.
“I am more comfortable sending it to customers myself because the cost is considerably lower than Grab Express and other services,” she added.
She also sells more than ten different styles of hijabs based on consumer preferences and current trends.
“In addition to selling hijabs, I plan to grow my business into clothes and other areas in the future.
“I hope to be able to stay in this field since it is deeply embedded in my soul,” she continued.
