MIRI: Datuk Lee Kim Shin has commended several companies and individuals here for their contributions which helped to improve medical services in the Miri Hospital.

The minister in charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) said the existing high spirit of care and concern among Mirians in facing challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic was admirable.

“On behalf of the Miri DDMC, I would like to thank Shin Yang Group of Companies on its recent contribution of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machine and extractor valued at RM230,000. Previously, the company had also contributed over RM730,000 worth of medical devices to the Miri Hospital.

“The PCR machine and extractor will help in analysing the swab test results. I would also like to thank other companies like Samling Group of Companies, Royal Dutch Shell (Shell) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) among others who have also given generous contributions.

“There are individuals who wish to remain anonymous for their contributions in the fight against Covid-19. This spirit of care and concern is something that we can see among Mirians and it must be nurtured,” he said today (May 26).

He said the vaccination was one of the best ways to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There are still many people who have not yet registered themselves because the registration rate is only 61 percent for Miri. I would like to urge the people to register themselves as soon as possible because more vaccine supplies are expected to arrive in June.

“We can see the effects of the vaccination programme in countries like the United Kingdom and United States, we can Many people have been vaccinated and there are no problems,” he said.

He also reminded Mirians to beware of fake news or rumours which were causing unnecessary fears among the people.

“Please do not circulate unverified rumours or fake news because they will only create problems and affect our vaccination programme,” he added.
