KUCHING: The Malaysian government and the Sarawak state government are constantly thinking of effective initiatives to help alleviate the burden of the people while safeguarding their safety and well-being, said Senator Jaziri Alkaf A. Suffian.

The Bersatu Sarawak leader said he firmly supported the federal government’s decision to undertake a comprehensive lockdown of social and economic sectors, excluding the vital economic and service sectors, nationwide for 14 days.

This decision was made after considering the current state of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia; the number of daily cases had surpassed 9,000 while the number of active cases had surpassed 70,000.

“This government’s decision is critical in ensuring that our country’s public health system does not collapse, especially given the government’s commitment to expand the number of vaccinations.”

“The presence of more violent novel variations of Covid-19 with high and rapid infectious rates undoubtedly influences this outcome.”

Jaziri also praised the Sarawak government for announcing the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance Package (BKSS) 6.0, which would cost RM1.4 billion, following the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) in Sarawak from May 29 to June 11.

“BKSS 6.0, which includes 15 initiatives decided by the   Sarawak government, provides the vitally needed support while also assisting in the survival of those afflicted by the epidemic.

“It is hoped that the initiatives that are currently being taken will help to lessen the burden that the people of Sarawak are bearing during this tough period.”

Jaziri added Bersatu was pleased with the announcement by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) that the state government had decided to leave it to the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud to determine the appropriate time to dissolve the Sarawak state assembly (DUN).
