KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos has given Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas a pat on the back for announcing an Education Trust Board in the Bukit Saban constituency.
The aim of the board, according to Uggah, who is Bukit Saban assemblyman, is to improve the education of the children in the area.
Minos told New Sarawak Tribune, “It serves as a fine example for the other assemblymen and assemblywomen to follow suit.
“All of them have a duty to assist the Education Department in the field of education.
“As a matter of fact, it is everyone’s duty to assist the Education Department. The education of the children is too vital to be totally left to the government instead.”
In Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, its senior lecturer Dr Arnold Puyok thinks it is time to have an Education Trust Board to help improve children’s education.
Dr Arnold, a political analyst, said, “It’s a proactive move that should be emulated by the people’s representative in the rural areas.”
He added that the board could be a catalyst to unleash the talents and potentials of the youths in the rural areas.
“Thus, it will be a step forward in reducing the rural-urban development gap in the state,” he said, adding that the setting up of an Education Trust Board would encourage more youths to seek educational opportunities.
