MUKAH: The Sarawak government will provide patrol boats to enforcement staff guarding its waters from foreign encroachment.
Chief Minister Datuk Patingi Abang Johari Tun Openg said he would allocate some funds for that purpose and these would be included in the State Budget 2020.
The budget would be tabled in the State Legislative Assembly next month.
Abang Johari said Sarawak would have an enforcement agency next year to help patrol its waters and assist fishermen.
“Sarawak can no longer rely on patrol boats provided by the federal government to do the enforcement work.
“Besides, the federal government gave excuses such as engines broke down and lack of petrol when asked why their boats were not patrolling,” he said during a Leader with the People event at Dewan Suarah Mesra here on Monday night.
