SIBU: Teachers at SJKC Kiang Hin have been accorded highest respect and sincere gratitude for their hard work and dedication in moulding their pupils’ character besides imparting knowledge and skills.

In paying tribute to the teachers, SJKC Kiang Hin Board of Management chairman Kapitan So Teck Kee acknowledged that they were the engineers and architects of the children’s future.

Speaking at the school’s Teachers’ Day celebration, Dragon Boat Festival and Gawai Festival held its premises here today, So pointed out that the teachers’ selfless dedication and hard work had inspired the children in the school to study hard to be more knowledgeable and better disciplined.

The three-in-one event, organised jointly by SJKC Kiang Hin Board of Management and Villlage Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Berjaya, Jalan Oya, Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Medang and Pearl Garden, was attended by Cr Kevin Kor Jie, who represented Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee as the guest of honour.

According to So, the months of May and June are full of meaningful and jovial celebrations for the school.

“We’ve just celebrated Mother’s Day and now we, the school board of management is joining the JKKK to celebrate Teachers’ Day. Moreover, during this period, we also celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival and Gawai together.

“On May 5 in the Chinese lunar calendar, we celebrate Dragon Boat Festival to commemorate a great patriotic poet, Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan wrote lots of poems on the value of loyalty and patriotism throughout his life, inspiring the young generations during his time,” he explained.

“The Dragon Boat Festival is also a day for all the family members to gather together to enjoy eating lots of food including rice dumplings with different flavours,” he said. “This festival also reminds us to cherish the contributions made by our ancestors in the past and, at the same time, to appreciate those people around us for their contributions to the society.”

Gawai, he stated, was not only a festival to celebrate a bountiful harvest but was also a sign of unity, friendship, and sharing in a diverse society.

“Hence, during this joyful and grateful moment, I would like to express my special thanks to all who have contributed to the prosperity and development of our community. 

“It is your hard work and selfless dedication that have enabled us to move forward to achieve fruitful results.

“In looking ahead with confidence and hope, I will continue to work hand in hand with all of you to uphold the spirit of unity and mutual assistance, and jointly face the challenges of the future in creating a better tomorrow,” So added.

Among those present at the event were SJKC Kiang Hin headmaster Ling Ing Kiong, Sibu District Education Office representative Siti Mariam Abdul Rahman and organising chairperson Tie Yian Yian.
