MUKAH: The divisional football association (MuFA) here paid tribute to two late local players who passed away in the middle of this year.
Both of them were from Kampung Tanam, Dalat near here. They also played for the Tanam Football Club (FC), which competed in the Mukah Parliament Trophy 2020 football tournament here, from last February until Oct 10.
In recognition of their contribution to the local football, MuFA presented compassionate aid to both deceased next-of-kin at MuFA’s dinner at Dewan Suarah Mesra here recently. Attendees at the dinner also chipped in some contribution.
Guest of honour, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib handed over the contribution to Dalat district Futsal Club chairman Daniel Francis Xavier, who represented the recipients.
Daniel thanked MuFA, Hanifah and the donors for their contribution as well as others who had helped Tanam FC directly or indirectly.
He said Tanam FC had always supported and participated in the tournaments organised by MuFA, although the club had never entered the final match thus far.
Both deceased were teachers. Alvin Chelan died after being struck by lightning on his way home from a primary school at Batang Igan, while Maja Jeraie died at a farm in Dalat. Alvin used to represent Sarawak at PSKPP tournaments.
