SPAOH: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) and Sarawak are in very safe hands with Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in charge.
The party’s Bukit Saban branch therefore intends to propose a resolution for Abang Johari to retain his presidency uncontested for the 2024-2027 session in the party convention early next year.
Its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Abang Johari, who is Sarawak Premier, had shown himself to be a very outstanding and visionary leader.
“He is even respected at the world stage for his strong advocacy of green energy and green economy,” he said at the PBB branch Wanita and Pemuda delegates meeting here today (Nov 17).
“At state level, he has shown his shrewdness and acumen in increasing the state revenue year after year.
“Last week when speaking at the ongoing State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, Abang Johari announced a revenue collection of RM14.2 billion for 2025.
“This achievement is unprecedented since our independence,” he said.
He added that Abang Johari too had announced a development fund of RM10 billion.
Of this amount, 62 per cent has been allocated for rural development, Uggah said.
“So with him still helming PBB and Sarawak, we are going to be in very safe hands.
“We have been recognised as a high income region and I am confident we will be able to maintain this status in the years ahead,” he added.
At the event, Uggah paid tribute to the branch leaders who had willingly relinquished their posts to make way for others .
They include former Wanita chief Nahairah Spawi who had made way for Natasha Nasa Uggah and the former Youth Chief Martin Ngindang who had made way for Mohd Aizat Dollah.
“They have continued to uphold a PBB tradition in allowing for the smooth transition of power,” Uggah added.
Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu who is the branch secretary meanwhile cautioned members against forming cliques within it.
“We must avoid this at all cost so that our party will always remain strong and united.
“Our unity is of paramount importance in strengthening PBB.
“Any self interest agenda has no place in the party. We must remain loyal as this loyalty and unity have allowed us to achieve much development and progress,”he said.
Uggah retained his chairmanship of the branch unopposed on the same day.
The delegates also elected Abang Madahi Abang Abdul Latif as Uggah’s deputy.
He defeated the incumbent Abang Sohardie Abang Zaini for the post.
