KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) welcomes the Election Commission’s (EC) official announcement on the dates for the 12th state election in December.

Its vice president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the state election must be held as soon as possible so that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) can get fresh mandate from the people.

“This is also in line with the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s views on a fresh mandate which is vital for GPS to have a strong basis to continue its pursuit of Sarawak’s rights.

“We stand firm with Abang Johari’s statement where GPS is not done in its struggle to regain the state’s rights under Article 112 of the Federal Constitution.

“On top of that, he had also mentioned that without the people’s mandate, what do GPS fight for? Thus, GPS and its component parties need a strong mandate from the people in this election so we can continue to pursue matters of mutual concern,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 24).
