KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan hopes that the PBB northern region mini convention in Miri on the 5th September will further invigorate the drive and spirit of party members.

“I hope it will be a platform to disseminate information to the community at the grassroots level on our policies, programmes and political matters at the national and state levels,” he said in his office at Wisma Sumber Alam today.

He said the convention also aimed to enhance cooperation, unity and provide support for the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for the state’s further progress.

“With this, our development and wellbeing can be enhanced and our rights and interests preserved and fought for.”

On the theme of the convention, “Hak Sarawak Diutamakan, Pembangunan Diperkasakan” (Sarawak rights prioritised, development empowered), he explained that it embodied PBB president Abang Johari’s mission of developing Sarawak.

Awang Tengah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, revealed that at the northern region convention, election briefings would be given to PBB election officials, including an introduction to election machinery, structure and administration, roles and responsibilities for party agents, election regulations, and so on.

“We will also be making a presentation on land administration in Sarawak to ensure the rights of the people in land matters are preserved.”

Among the event’s programmes would be the presentation of a paper on the direction of Sarawak’s oil and gas industry, he said.

Awang Tengah said that previously, a large scale special convention attended by leaders from all over the state would be held in Kuching.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its standard operating procedures (SOPs), the party  decided to hold mini conventions according to zones.

The northern region convention will involve delegates from 17 PBB branches, encompassing PBB committee members including its Youth and Women wings, PBB elected representatives, and several veterans who were founders of the party.
