BINTULU: PBB Tanjong Batu branch has called for the creation of an additional parliamentary seat for the Bintulu area.

This was among two motions presented by its chief Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan at the 16th Triennial General Meeting of the branch on Saturday

In making the justification, he said the Bintulu area currently has more than 120,000 voters.

Taking into account the vast state constituency areas such as Jepak, Tanjong Batu, Kemena, and Samalaju, he suggested an additional seat be created to ensure voters in those areas get better representation.

“The growing number of voters and the size of this area require the addition of seats to ensure the voice of the people continues to be heard,” he said, hoping an additional state seat would also be considered.

“We hope the party’s top management will consider this proposal for the benefit of the people in this area,” said Haidar.

In the event, he hoped candidates from the party would be considered for both the proposed seats.

In another motion the branch proposed that the party’s top leadership be retained unopposed in the interest of continuity in PBB.

According to him, party president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership which has brought PBB to a higher level needs to go on to ensure the continued success of the party.

He also suggested that Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan remain as deputy presidents of the party unopposed.

“The same goes for the position of senior vice president currently held by Datuk Sri Fadillah Yusuf and Datuk Sri Stephen Rundi Utom, who are also proposed to be retained without any contest.

“These proposals are a sign of support for the party’s top leadership who have brought the PBB to a better level,” he said.
